Introducing our Refurbished Tech Scheme!

13 September 2024

We're thrilled to announce our partnership with Mobile Advantage, a pioneer in sustainable tech solutions, to offer you and your employees our Refurbished Tech scheme. Looking after your pocket and the planet! Our Refurbished Tech scheme is an employee benefit that makes it more affordable for your employees to buy the tech they need for themselves and their families. They can trade tech hiding in a drawer at home against quality refurbished tech, sell old tech for cash, and more, reducing their carbon footprint… and yours! Discover what our Refurbished Tech scheme can do for your people and business.

Refurbished Tech for Your People

Buy. Sell. Repair. Save money!

Our Refurbished Tech scheme allows your employees to buy the latest phones, tablets and iPads, computers, smart watches, gaming consoles and gear. They can even compare the best sim-only deals.

How much old tech do you have lying around at home?

Trading tech that’s doing nothing but taking up space for newly refurbished tech helps offset the cost and save money, but you don’t need to trade if you love what you already have. Sell old tech for cash instead!

Refurbished tech doesn’t mean old tech…

The market moves quickly, with many brands bringing out new models each year. Our Refurbished Tech scheme gives access to up-to-date tech at a much cheaper price than buying brand new. Our tech scheme offers three cosmetic grades of refurbishment, so there are options to suit all budgets.

Spread the cost!

We’re giving you three ways for your employees to pay for their refurbished tech: buy upfront and outright or spread the cost through salary deduction or salary sacrifice payments. It’s up to you which options you offer your people, and you can even provide all three if you wish.

Read our blog, ‘What is Salary Sacrifice?’ to answer any questions you may have about salary sacrifice and salary deduct schemes.

Over 20% of Brits live with a cracked screen on their mobile phone for over six months before taking action (Square Repair). Why? We don’t want to be left smartphone-less.

It is inconvenient to be without your mobile. When your employees use our Refurbished Tech scheme to repair their broken phone, they can loan one while it’s fixed. Employees can spread the cost of repairing their devices, too!

Sharing is caring… there are no limits on how many purchases employees can make via our Refurbished Tech scheme, meaning they can give their friends and family access to the best deals, too.

Making Life More Affordable

26% of young people do not have access to a laptop or similar device (Digital Poverty Alliance).

Why does this stat concern us?

Those unable to access online services are at a disadvantage. We take for granted how much and what we use the internet for. We learn from it, we buy from it, and we can use it to hunt for the deals that save us money.

During the pandemic, children were forced to learn at home, digitally, and one in five didn’t have access to an appropriate device. Ask any parent in your organisation, and they’ll tell you that their children do most of their homework online, and schools are moving towards digital-only communication.

Tech is no longer a luxury. It’s a necessity.

Our Refurbished Tech scheme helps employees afford the tech they need by spreading the cost through monthly salary deduct payments. No debt. No interest.

Alleviating the Financial Stress

The schooling system’s move to digital isn’t the only thing putting pressure on parents to provide tech.

The average age at which a child gets a mobile phone in the UK is 10, and 40% of six-year-olds have their own tablet (iNews). Whether it’s concerns over safety or social demand, parents feel the need to provide their children with tech.

That’s not all… The average Brit spends £190 per child at Christmas and gets into £439 worth of debt because of Christmas spending (Money Zine).

Our Refurbished Tech scheme can prevent parents from going into debt by helping them spread the cost of almost all their tech needs.

Refurbished Tech for Your Business

Clearly, our Refurbished Tech scheme is great for your people, but what makes it so beneficial for your business?

We’ll answer this question by sharing some of our tech scheme’s features, but before we do, let’s remind you of the importance of enhancing financial wellbeing...

Money worries cost UK employers billions, increase employee stress levels and can cause or worsen mental ill-health.

Our Refurbished Tech scheme is a cost-neutral employee benefit that’s free to implement; there are no headcount restrictions, and you can brand your platform and integrate it into your existing benefits portfolio.

You’re in control with flexible payment solutions.

Our Refurbished Tech scheme has three ways to pay, and it’s up to you which you choose to make available to your employees: buy up front, salary deduct or salary sacrifice. You can even select all three!

  • Buy Upfront: This is the ultimate admin-free option. Employees with the funds to pay in full can do so like any other online transaction.
  • Salary Deduct: Salary deduct scheme repayments go through payroll, and your HR team must approve the application before the employee can purchase their refurbished tech. Repayments are taken at the NET level, so there are no tax or NIC savings, but there is less admin than with a salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Salary Sacrifice: As with salary deduct, your HR team must approve the scheme application first. It requires more admin because the repayments come from the employee’s Gross pay, but this is also where the extra NIC savings happen for your employees!

Track the impact!

When you embed our Refurbished Tech scheme into your employee benefits offering, we’ll provide a self-serve dashboard showing how much employees spend and save across the scheme.

Driving your CSR Ambitions.

Our self-serve platform also shows you the volume of CO2/e-waste your Refurbished Tech scheme is preventing.

The average carbon footprint created by producing a new laptop is 331 kg CO2 equivalent. To put this into context, three new laptops create nearly a tonne of CO2, which would fill a bus (Circular Computing)! Every item of refurbished tech your employees purchase contributes to your organisation’s CSR and ESG ambitions.

Social Value.

Does your business support specific charities? If so, you can add the option for employees to give a little extra at the checkout to support a worthy cause.

End-to-end scheme management.

We offer such a flexible approach to our Refurbished Tech scheme because we want it to be as time-efficient as it is eco-friendly. That’s why we support customer care, device delivery, and marketing, which includes digital comms collateral, roadshows and amnesty days.

Amnesty days = sell old tech for trade-in or cash from your office!
